Remembering Sandy Hook

Dear parents of Newtown, CT

Words cannot begin to express the pain people all over the U.S feel for the loss of those amazing kids. I am writing this letter to let you know you are not alone. I know what it feels like to lose a loved one and I know that no matter what people say you still feel pain. I know what it’s like to wake up in the morning and wonder if it was all a nightmare. Everyone’s hearts ached as we saw what happened on the news. I myself could not stop from shedding tears.

What happened did not just impact me but many others as well. It has shown me to appreciate all the little things. It has shown me to be thankful every day for those who are in my life. I am still in high school so I do not have children yet but I have a little brother and an older sister and I learned that all those fights that we have are useless. I learned that “I love you” can never be said too much .It taught me that I need to let those who love me and do so much for me know that I love them as well and that I appreciate ever thing they do for me.

The day that it all happened I came home and found my mother crying as well as my aunt and uncle. I asked what happen and that’s when I saw the news. I thought that there was no more good people in this world but I was wrong. They talked about teachers that risked their lives for their students. They also talked about a little kid who went and got his friends and helped them out. Those are people who will always be heroes no matter what. We children go to school every day to learn yet you never expect something this tragic to happen. In my school we are working together to make sure that the school is safer. Also some of us realized that we need to start getting along because sometime you don’t even know why it is that you dislike each other, so we put our differences aside and work together to make our school a better place. I also wanted you to know that my condolences are with you.

Sincerely, Carina Martin
