The Sandy Hook Tragedy

The Sandy Hook Tragedy

Dear families of Newtown, Connecticut,

I am a sophomore at Westland Hialeah Senior high school who has been truly touched on the event that occurred on December 14, 2012. On behalf of my friends, family and I, we wish you the best and the best of luck in someday getting justice.

It’s a disappointment that such a tragic event had to occur for the president to realize we need better gun control. We fight very hard every day to pass that law and hope that another event like this never happens. Now, our schools are what you can call “safer”. At least in my high school we are more aware of who comes through our doors, we secure our classrooms and some teachers have even managed to come up with a hiding plan if our school is ever hit.

Hearing your stories truly touched me, noting that I have and eleven year old brother in elementary school. Barrack Obama’s speech touched all of us and that day I did as he said and hugged my brother a bit tighter that day. I am now more aware of who the cop at my school is if I ever have to report a problem of such sort. I am also aware of the dangers that could happen at a school in broad day light. And at lunch time when those school gates are wide open for anyone to make their way in and out I make sure to stay away and always spot a school official if I see anything that does not look right.
