Dear Families Of Sandy Hook

Dear families of Sandy Hook,

I don’t know; much less understand the situation that your family is going though. I can only imagine how hard it must be to go on with life as usual and do the stuff that seems so normal to me. Despite not understanding your situation the events of December 14th has had a profound effects on me.

I am a sophomore at Westland Hialeah Senior High School, it is far from Connecticut but the effect of the tragedy reaches all of us as a community. The death of those 20 children brought to my attention many issues like anxiety of not being safe in school.

I can no longer go to school and feel like it’s a safe place. In fact after the tragedy walking into school is like walking into a crime scene. In my mind school and safety will no longer be related words and I will never feel safe there. Just the thought that anyone dangerous can walk in gives me chills.

This shooting has also opened my eyes to gun control issues. Knowing that anyone in the United States can bear arms scares me. That incident was made possible by a citizen who had this right and got taken advantage of. However as a community we are coming together and making an effort to stop tragedies like this from happening again.

Sincerely,
Daniela H
